After an amazingly long delay (even surpassing that for our post-winter league party) the new fields at the end of Gilman are opening. Known as the Tom Bates Regional Sports Complex, this is going to be a great facility when completed. Eventually it will have 3 natural grass soccer fields as well, but the 2 lighted field turf soccer fields should be open this week. Because there is so much competition to get time on these fields, we were only able to get one prime-time slot reserved for the Fall, but will have more time on it during the Winter.
It's pretty pricey as far as fields go, but because of our rain-outs during the Winter League, we've got some money left to partially subsidize it this year. We're asking for $10 per player to run through the end of November (three months).
Because insurance is mandatory for these fields, we also need players to be UPA members. The only way we can afford insurance is to go through the UPA.
This way, if you're already a UPA member all you need is a signed waiver, a few bucks and we're good to go. While we would like to make this as easily accessible as possible, we're not offering the event-only fees for pickup because they're a major organizational pain to deal with and our full-time volunteers have rebelled against it.
It's a pretty tight time-slot, so if we want to get 2 hours in we need to start on time and be ready to get off if anyone takes the 9-11 slot after us.
Because the fields are artificial and cleaning them is pretty difficult, we need to do our best to keep them clean. The field police are also threatening $50 fines for violations, so let people know if they're violating. Gum, food, dogs, and sugared drinks are all banned from the fields. Water is allowed, but leave your gatorade in the car. Metal-tipped cleats apparently damage the turf, so leave them at home.
Hope you can make it.
